EDUCATION AND LIBRARIES

Ramona Library

Ramona, CA

Certifications: LEED Gold

VDLA provided planting and irrigation design for the new County branch library in Ramona. Scope included site assessments, conceptual drawings and construction drawings including details and specifications. The team worked closely with the architect, community groups and the County to design a library and landscape that served the community needs as well as meeting sustainability requirements to achieve a rating of LEED Gold.  Landscaping was carefully planned to preserve historic trees along State Route 67, and to maintain existing drainage patterns across the site which has a seasonal stream behind it. The quality and flow of the water is regulated through the use of vegetated swales and a drainage basin. Emphasis on low-water use plants and an irrigation system incorporating drip application help to maximize water conservation and meet requirements of Ramona Municipal Water District’s Level 2 Drought Alert.
