La Colonia Skate Park

VDLA served as prime consultant for the master plan, construction / bid documents and construction administration for a new skate park at La Colonia Park, which is in the historic Eden Gardens neighborhood of Solana Beach, CA. The scope fulfills a portion of the overall adopted master plan prepared by VDLA, which included extensive community outreach for this 3.79-acre park and community center. The scope for this CIP skate park project includes a skate park, a ‘mini’ full basketball court, an entry plaza with seating, a donor wall, a sound-attenuation wall featuring ceramic tiles screened with skateboard deck designs, and a new accessible entry ramp into the park. VDLA worked closely with skate feature design firm Site Design Group, the City of Solana Beach and the community to produce a design that appeals to all ages and levels of skating experience. The project also includes a self-powered Energi Plant for charging cell phones using solar and wind power.
