Fletcher Cove Tot Lot

VDLA worked closely with the City of Solana Beach and the community to produce an inclusive design that appeals to all ages and abilities within a very limited existing space. VDLA provided conceptual options, final landscape architectural design, construction documents, bid forms and construction administration for the Fletcher Cove Tot Lot. The scope included extensive community outreach and local historical research. The design preserved ocean views and provided a shaded ADA accessible net structure, swings, monkey bars, musical chimes, slide, and a boogie board for children ages 5-12. An area designed for children ages 2-5 focuses on aspects of early childhood development, building motor, language, cognitive, and social skills through imaginative play. A graceful whale adorns the play surface, and a history panel displays a 1923 aerial photo side by side with a photo taken 100 years later from the same vantage point by VDLA’s licensed drone pilots.
