Ramona Library
Location
Ramona, CA
Key Features
• LEED Gold
• Preservation of Historic Trees along State Route 67
•Vegetated Swales & Drainage Basin
VDLA provided planting and irrigation design for this new $11.6 million County branch library in Ramona. Scope included site assessments, conceptual drawings and construction drawings including details and specifications. The team worked closely with the architect, community groups and the County to design a library and landscape that served the community needs as well as meeting sustainability requirements of LEED Gold. Landscaping was carefully planned to preserve historic trees along State Route 67, and to maintain existing drainage patterns across the site which has a seasonal stream behind it. The quality and flow of the water is regulated through the use of vegetated swales and a drainage basin. A connection to the local network of equestrian trails was provided along a side street right of way, and a horse tie up was located just off the trail in the rear approach to the library.
