VDLA was an integral member of the design-build team that created an intriguing landscape design for a new energy efficient County library for the community of Fallbrook. The design includes a 2,800 square foot green roof, a “visual garden” featuring desert themed landscape and sculptures, a “reading garden” courtyard and perimeter landscaping. A “Poet’s Patio” opens onto a public terrace featuring a serpentine stone seatwall by artist James Hubbell. The landscape provides a stimulating and interesting environment, with a low water use plant palette including succulents that provide a variety of textures and colors. The project has achieved LEED Silver certification, a People’s Choice Orchid Award at the 2011 San Diego Orchids & Onions Program, and a Design Build Institute Award.
