Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay

Van Dyke Landscape Architects was commissioned to design a major renovation of hotel grounds, including the famed concert venue. Primary design goals were to effectively identify the pedestrian entry to the concert amphitheater without detracting from normal hotel functions, and to create a subtle transition between the amphitheater and the existing pool area. The renovation included streetscape improvements to Shelter Island Drive and improvements to the adjacent parking lots. The completed project resulted in an intimate concert venue situated comfortably within a verdant landscape setting. Other design elements included a water feature, bridge, and theater-style fiber optic light strips in aisle walkways for safety wayfinding during evening concert events.
