VDLA led a multi-disciplinary team to provide master planning, design development and construction documentation for this annex to the existing Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery located on a 323-acre site on MCAS Miramar. Site constraints included air zone use restrictions, numerous existing easements across the site, extensive protected and endangered habitat, and challenging topography. Despite the challenges, VDLA’s design exceeds the original goal for burial spaces provided. VDLA is now providing services for Phase 2 which will provide schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction support services for landscape and irrigation for this 20-acre design-build project. In addition to the VA, interested parties included veterans groups, the City of San Diego, the Department of Health, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, MCAS Miramar, and the Army Corps of Engineers.
