Heritage Square

Located in the Civic Center area of National City, the project involved one block of 'A' Avenue designated as a historical preservation and restoration site.  A plan was developed that preserved existing buildings and allowed for the future moving on of structures of historical significance. The existing street was narrowed, with a gentle curve incorporated into the design to slow traffic. A pedestrian orientation was the focus of the design and included seating areas, walkways and a shade tree oriented landscape. Site fixtures and materials referenced the historical setting. Planting, lighting, furniture and specialty paving were included. The project site serves as a transition through a residential block, connecting the government and commercial center of National City.
